CANCELLATIONS

Your regular session time is reserved for you and booked out in advance in my diary. I respect session times and I ask you not to cancel unless this is for something exceptional and important which cannot be rescheduled. If you won’t be attending your weekly session, I require 24 hour notice of your non-attendance. For sessions missed for whatever reason with less than 24 hours’ notice, the fee for that missed week is still payable in full. I work on the basis that our sessions are ongoing unless I hear otherwise.

If I need to cancel your session, I will try to give you as much notice as I can. With planned absence I will give you at least 2 weeks notice.

CONTACT WITH YOUR DOCTOR

If you are currently seeing a psychiatrist, or if it is in your interest that your GP should know that you are coming to see me, I will normally wish to inform them of my contact with you as they carry clinical responsibility for your care.

Professional ethics and Confidentiality

I work in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Conduct as well as Practice Guidelines of the British Psychological Society and Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics of the Health and Care Professions Council. These websites provide detailed information on the policies and guidelines mentioned:

https://www.bps.org.uk/

https://www.hcpc-uk.org/

I would like to highlight here some of the most important aspects of the policies concerning confidentiality. You are entitled to expect that the information you give to me about yourself and others will remain confidential. I have a duty not to disclose such information except as discussed below and to bring my confidentiality practice to your attention.

If we should happen to meet in a public place or a social situation it will be my first concern to protect your confidentiality and so I will not speak to you unless you speak to me. As required professionally, I receive supervision from an accredited colleague for the clinical work I do but keep my clients’ full names confidential during this process.

There are limits of confidentiality where information about you may be shared and confidentiality breached, for example for reasons of safeguarding, requirements of the law, and public protection. If need to share a serious concern about your or someone else’s safety with another professional I will speak to you about this first. In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to breach your confidentiality with or without your immediate knowledge or consent. This would be the case where there are significant risks to your psychological wellbeing; where the alleged perpetrator may be a current risk to others or where there is risk of jeopardising a potential investigation.

Any decision to breach confidentiality will not be taken lightly by me and will be made in good faith because of safeguarding concerns. This is supported by professional guidance. The focus of my interventions including any breach of confidentiality will be on promoting a proportionate, measured approach to balancing the risk of harm with respecting your capacity to consent, your choices and preferred outcome for your own life circumstances.

Professional ethics AND DATA PROTECTION

I abide by the Standards of conduct, performance and ethics of the Health & Care Professions Council. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to access any information that is held relating to you.

I will shred all my written notes after our sessions are completed.
